comic book jones logo, a Sad news from Staten Island as the comics stores Comic Book Jones, a beloved fixture of the local comics scene, will be closing in about two weeks.

Owner Socko Jones announced it on Facebook:

WE ARE SADDENED TO ANNOUNCE WE ARE CLOSING OUR DOORS PERMANENTLY… we will still be open for roughly 2 weeks. So stay tuned for farewell sales and events! I am not ready to create a truly mushy post yet because we are still here for a little while longer. Soooooo ALL WEEKEND COME SPIN THE WHEEL TO SAVE UP TO 50% OFF EVERYTHING IN THE STORE!!!‬
‪Thanks! We love ya ‬

The store will be having one last tailgate party on Friday.

Comic Book Jones was a truly exemplary shop with attention to the details of apperance but, more importantly, a true connection with their customers. The parties and signings there were legendary – I attended one for the Choker tour that included a custom pasta station and bands that was truly one of a kind. The shop was one of the first that I encountered that had a kids reading area in the front and was always forward looking in all its practices.

Owner Socko Jones is also a much liked pillar of the scene, as the outpouring of sadness on FB and Twitter attests. He was profiled in the New York Times a few years ago, and the shop had been named “Best of Staten Island.”

Even some of the others locals of Shaolin Land visited the shop.

It’s a tough retail environment out there, and it’s always a sad day to see a comics shop close, but this one really hurts. I’m sure the community will be out to show it love one more time at the final tailgate.
