Production is underway on the second season of Star Trek: Picard, arriving in 2022. As revealed by the trailer, the season will not just see the return of Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), but also feature John de Lancie reprising the role of Q.

Over the course of the trailer, which includes narration by Stewart about how time is the final frontier, we see several telling objects, including an hourglass with its sand running backwards, a copy of Paradise Lost, and a model of the constellation-class starship U.S.S. Stargazer (NCC-2893).

The Stargazer plays an important role in Picard’s personal history. It was the ship the Captain commanded before the Enterprise-D. At the Battle of Maxia, Picard and the Stargazer emerged victorious thanks to what would later be studied as the “Picard Maneuver.” You may remember the Stargazer from the Star Trek: The Next Generation season one episode, “The Battle.”

The trailer also features plenty of imagery that will be familiar to fans of this series and TNG alike, including an artist’s rendition of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D, the model of communicator used onboard that ship, and the exterior of Château Picard, which became familiar over the course of the show’s first season.

Furthermore, while the trailer doesn’t reveal all of the characters who might play into the apparently time-travel-centric second season, we can hope that we’ll be seeing returning characters from the first season as well as characters from throughout Picard’s personal history.
