Dynamite has revealed the Supernatural comics series is splitting into two titles this fall: Supernatural: Dean Winchester, and Supernatural: Sam Winchester. Picking up from September’s special Supernatural: Wayward (by Paulina Ganucheau and John Amor), the books will follow the Winchester brothers (played on the show respectively by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) as they go their separate ways after “horrible, hellish forces threaten to drive them to travel separate roads”.
Dean’s comic will be helmed by writer Chuck Brown (Bitter Root) and artist Rapha Lobosco (Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living), and find the older Winchester in New Orleans during Mardi Gras, pursuing a case his dad never closed. However, “to do so, he might have to murder a god.” Sam’s, meanwhile, will be written by Ganucheau with art by Kendall Goode (The Terminator), and take place in an abandoned Appalachian town, where “cryptic phone calls” have led him to an old mystery involving “ancient eldritch horrors”.
Brown says, “I’ve been a fan of Supernatural since day one. Writing Dean is going to be wild as he revisits his past case down south.” Ganucheau adds, “Supernatural is something that is a part of my DNA. So getting this opportunity is a treasure. I can’t wait to take readers and Sam along on an isolatingly perilous journey of tears and horrors.”
Both comics will begin this October, and come with a host of covers, including connecting ones, that you can check out below. Dynamite’s initial Supernatural series, by Greg Pak and Daniel Scalisi, will wrap up with issue #10 on August 26, and Wayward will set the stage for these books on September 2.
