This week’s pick for the Small Press Spotlight is a new release from Maamoul Press set to ship this week on December 10. Inside the Giant Fish is a graphic novel by Rawand Issa that was previously published in Arabic in Egypt by Dar Al Mahrousa and will now be released in an English language edition translated by Amy Chiniara.

Searching for her lost memories on a beach that no longer exists, Rawand merges a tumultuous coming-of-age memoir with the effects of the privatisation of Lebanon’s public beaches, with bold, graphic artwork and poignant storytelling.

Issa is the author and artist of Maamoul Press’s bestselling book, The Insubordinate. Based in Lebanon, her work focuses on socio-economic issues and documenting real stories. She is also the author of several books and zines in addition to contributing political cartoons and comics to different magazines.
