The relaunched Amazing Spider-Man title from writer Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr are set to debut next month. This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the webhead and those keeping score have already deduced that the 900th issue of the Amazing Spidey is fast approaching. Sure enough, the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #6 marks the 900th issue of the title and Marvel is celebrating with a giant-sized spectacular that sees Spidey contending with the Sinister Six.
But this isn’t your average Sinister Six. According to the official press release, “someone from Spider-Man’s past has captured the Sinister Six and used them to create the truly terrifying SINISTER ADAPTOID, a being equipped with the abilities of Spidey’s greatest foes: Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, Mysterio, and Sandman.
Joining Wells is artist Ed McGuinness. No other members of the creative team were mentioned in the press release. Wells expressed his excitement to work with such an acclaimed comic artist:
“There’s nothing I love more than a giant-size Spider-Man anniversary issue, and I’m pulling out all the — ah, what does it matter what I think. ED MCGUINNESS is drawing a super-sized Spider-story. Who isn’t going to check this out???”
Editor Nick Lowe promised big things for Amazing Spider-Man #900:
“Zeb and Ed are trying to do the impossible — top Lee & Ditko’s AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1! And that’s not the only thing that #900 has — including some shocks that are going to make you say WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!?!”
The issue will feature a main cover by John Romita Jr. and a wraparound variant by McGuinness.
Look for Amazing Spider-Man #900 to arrive in stores on Wednesday June 22, 2022.
