Weekend Reading 60: Murder & a new Web-Head!

AVERY KAPLAN: Something about May has put me in a mood for murder most foul, so this for my prose reading this weekend, I’ll be digging up some history with The Invention of Murder: How the Victorians Revelled in Death and Detection and Created Modern Crime by Judith Flanders. Then, I’ve got a copy of The Amazing Spider-Man #263 by Tom Defalco, Ron Frenz, Brett Breeding, John Beatty, Joe Rosen, and Bob Sharen, published in 1984, which sees a former Doc Ock cosplayer becoming a Spider-Man cosplayer… Sounds like a superior Spidey story to me! Thwip, thwip!

Weekend Reading 60: Move over, Jarvis!

DEAN SIMONS: Feeling a bit crappy so going to dig into more old school Marvel comfort food. My gradual reading of the Avengers reaches #89 onwards – and that means the epic Kree/Skrull War. What is quite striking about it, aside from the ambitious scope and the long multi-issue storyline, is that here is where Sal Buscema finally seems settled stylistically as an artist on the series. It is an interesting thing seeing his work improve from his first shots on the title way back around issue #68.

Weekend Reading 60: Superman Smashes the Klan!! GET EM SUPES!

TAIMUR DAR: The acclaimed Superman Smashes the Klan comic by writer Gene Yang and artist Gurihiru has been on my agenda to read since it came out in 2019. Then the pandemic hit and I must have lost track of everything including reading that. But now that things are slowly returning to normal and after loving The DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration anthology this week, it occurred to me there’s no better time ro read Superman Smashes the Klan than now.
