It’s Weekend Reading 39, the penultimate weekend reading of 2020, and here at Stately Beat Manor, we’re buzzing with excitement over the books and comics we’re going to be studying this weekend.

Whether you read something off the “Best of” list or not, we’re very interested to hear what you’re planning to read this weekend, so please let us know in the comment section!
AVERY KAPLAN: This weekend, I’ll be reading Cosmoknights by Hannah Templer. And as far as prose goes, I’ll be revisiting The Stand by the man himself, Stephen King, to ensure I’m thoroughly prepared for the new adaption on CBS All Access.
TAIMUR DAR: Discovered that A Contract with God was available to read on the libby app so I’ll finally be reading that seminal Will Eisner work.
GREGORY PAUL SILBER: Chanukah just ended, and one of the gifts I received was Annihilator written by Grant Morrison, illustrated by Frazer Irving, and lettered by Jared K. Fletcher. I’m a huge Morrison fan, especially when they lean into metafiction and postmodernism–their Animal Man run with Chas Truog is one of my favorite comics of all time–so I’ve been meaning to read Annihilator since its 2015 release. I’ve purposely avoided reading plot details, but I think it has something to do with a screenwriter who has to write or else the world will end? Relatable! Frazer Irving excels at drawing psychedelic and surreal sci-fi/fantasy, so I’m sure I’ll get plenty of that here.
BILLY HENEHAN: Christmas came early this month when Michel Fiffe released not one, but two new issues of Copra on the same day. The shelves at Copra friendly shops like NYC’s Forbidden Planet and Easthampton, MA’s Comics N More greeted locals both new issues on the same New Comic Book Day. And longtime fans used to buying from Michel directly found a familiar sight in their mailboxes recently. These two issues of Copra mark the beginning of The Ochizon Saga, a storyline Fiffe has been building to for years. I’m psyched to read them.
