AVERY KAPLAN: This weekend I’ll be checking out Better Angles: A Kate Warne Adventure by Jeff Jensen, George Schall, and AndWorld Design. I’m a fan of the historical figure, and I adored Schall’s art on Made in Korea, so I can’t wait to check this one out. Then, as far as prose goes, I’ll be enjoying some nonfiction: What a Fish Knows: The Inner Lives of our Underwater Cousins by Jonathan Balcombe.

ARPAD OKAY: I am about a hundred pages into Little Monarchs, Jonathan Case’s new OGN. Consistently unpredictable! Genuinely heartfelt! Dense! Funny! I am really, really enjoying this read. I guess I was expecting a sports book from “middle grade YA” and a kayak on the cover? But it’s a naturalist post-apocalypse environmental science fiction comic. The gorgeously cartoony watercolor art was going to get me to read it either way but yeah, climate fiction that looks like Snapdragon and reads like Kurt Vonnegut, I’m feeling it.
CY BELTRAN: Continuing my Loki read from last week, I’ll be finishing up Fear Itself by Matt Fraction, Stuart Immonen, Wade von Grawbadger, Laura Martin, and Chris Eliopoulos to start off the weekend. I realized halfway through that I’d never read it, which was a surprise based on how much of an Immonen fan I am. The story isn’t quite doing it for me, but Journey Into Mystery by Kieron Gillen, Doug Braithwaite, Ulises Arreola, Mitch Breitweiser, Bettie Breitweiser, Richard Elson, Whilce Portacio, Clayton Cowles, and co. has been hitting all of the right buttons. Not only is the series rewarding, but the Stephanie Hans covers are truly amazing.
TAIMUR DAR: I attended WonderCon last weekend and then spent a few extra days in California. It’s first time I’ve been on a plane in over 2 years and I figured I was due for a vacation. I didn’t plan on making any purchases at WonderCon, but I found the Absolute Edition of All Star Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely that was one sale for only $60, so it was too good not to buy. I also checked out the Blast From The Past store in Burbank, and found a TPB of JLA: Earth 2. Another Morrison/Quitely DC Comics collaboration, but one I’ve been meaning to read. So now that I’m back home, it looks to be a Morrison/Quitely weekend!
