The first issue of legendary writer/artist Geof Darrow‘s latest Shaolin Cowboy series from Dark Horse Comics, The Shaolin Cowboy: Cruel to be Kin, is due out in stores next month. The seven-issue series follows the titular hero as he faces his greatest challenge yet: homeschooling his kids. Today The Beat is pleased to present an exclusive first look at the three covers for the third issue of the forthcoming series, which is due out in stores in July.

In a kungfluence of attacks the Shaolin Cowboy must pull a kung fu “hat trick” if he expects to save himself and his newborn Varanus komodoensis Ouwens companion from a free-range trip to hell. Don’t take my word for it, see it for yourself! The SCU is “ACTION PACKED!!”

Here’s how Dark Horse describes The Shaolin Cowboy: Cruel to be Kin #3:

The latest issue of the series is written and illustrated by Darrow, with colors by Dave Stewart (assisted by flatters Mark Sweeney, Raunak Singh, Fred Paculba, and Josh Laird) and letters by Nate Piekos. In addition to main covers by Darrow, each issue of the series has also featured multiple variant covers from all-star artists including Mike MignolaFrank Quitely, and Ed Piskor. The July-shipping third installments variant covers come from a pair of legends in their own right: Stan Sakai and Steve Skroce.

Here are Sakai and Skroce’s covers, respectively, the former of which features a cameo from a familiar rabbit rōnin:
