Today during a presentation to retailers at San Diego Comic Con, Marvel Comics revealed a number of new releases. Among the SDCC annoucnements from Marvel are a new ongoing series for a fan-favorite Spider-Man character, a number of anniversary miniseries and one-shots, and the Marvel return of a superstar artist.

Marvel recently announced a Superior Spider-Man Returns one-shot set for release in October, marking the 10th anniversary of the storyline in which Doctor Octopus took over Peter Parker’s body and set out to prove that he could be a better Spider-Man than Peter ever was. Today at SDCC Marvel revealed that Superior Spider-Man will return in November as an ongoing series, from original series writer Dan Slott and artist Mark Bagley. The title will apparently replace the current adjectiveless Spider-Man series from the same creative team.

From Marvel’s announcement:

A Superior Reckoning!

SPIDER-MAN faces a NEW VILLAIN from his SUPERIOR past. As she fries New York with all the power of a living star, DOC OCK makes a life-changing discovery! MARK BAGLEY and DAN SLOTT continue their Spider-Man run with this 10th-ANNIVERSARY celebration of everything that made Spider-Man Superior.

September will see the release of Wolverine #37, and Marvel announced today that superstar artist Greg Capullo will provide a variant cover for the issue. The cover marks Capullo’s first new work for Marvel in thirty years, though Marvel has released “hidden gem” variants featuring old Capullo artwork in recent years. The artist’s return to Marvel was first teased on a podcast last year

In other Capullo news, the artist will provide cover artwork for a new Deadpool one-shot set to drop in November. Deadpool: Seven Slaughters #1 will follow seven days of Deadpool’s life, with stories from a cabal of superstar creators including Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld, Cullen Bunn, Cody Ziglar, Marc Guggenheim, Justina Ireland, Gail Simone, Greg Land, Whilce Portacio, David Baldeon, and Phillip Sevy.

Here’s how Marvel describes the one-shot:

Seven kills in seven days!

Welcome to a week in the life of Wade Wilson, the best mercenary Marvel’s ever had (just ask him)! From facing off with rival killers to top secret assassinations, DEADPOOL has a lot of work to do in this blood-soaked oversized issue full of fan-favorite creators past and future!

In the throwback department, Marvel has a pair of miniseries debuting in November. First up is Daredevil: Black Armor, a series set during the days when the man without fear wore, well, black armor.

The other throwback series coming in November is a return to the original Marvel Comics mega-crossover. Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars: Battleworld will take readers back to the event series in time for the event’s 40th anniversary. The series comes from the creative team of writer Tom DeFalco and artist Pat Olliffe. It will feature main cover artwork by Giuseppe Camuncoli, with the first issue sporting a variant cover by Ryan Stegman.
