Dark Horse Comics has teased a new take on the iconic Frankenstein story. Frankie Reborn will reimagine Mary Shelley‘s gothic horror novel to take place in the Germany of the 1930s. The book will come from pinup artist Olivia de Berardinis, otherwise known simply as Olivia, working with animator Martin Meunier and de Barardinis’s partner, Joel Beren.
Here’s how Dark Horse describes Frankie Reborn:
In Frankie Reborn, the tale is reimagined amidst the backdrop of pre-World War II Berlin and the ominous ascension of fascism. Utilizing Olivia’s unique artistic skills, this project will bring new meaning to the phrase “It’s alive.”
In a statement announcing the project, Dark Horse President and CEO Mike Richardson expressed his enthusiasm at working with Olivia and Beren:
“I’ve known Olivia and Joel for a very long time. Olivia’s work is legendary, and I am extremely excited to have them bring this project to Dark Horse.”
Olivia is a pinup artist whose work in various media has been shown in art galleries around the world. The artist first shared her take on the iconic Bride of Frankenstein from the 1935 film on social media back in 2014.
