We had a bit of a wait for this one because of the whole pandemic situation but it is finally here – Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the sequel to the surprise hit 2019 Shazam! movie, had its first official trailer debut at SDCC.

That’s right, the FAMILY is back for more!

Shazam Fury of the Gods

The scheduled release for Shazam! Fury of the Gods is December 21, 2022.

As is apparent from the trailer, Billy Batson is now officially backed up by his magically-endowed foster siblings as the Shazam family as they take on a new threat: The Daughters of Atlas.

David F. Sandberg returns to the director’s chair and Henry Gayden returns for the screenplay – with the assist of Fast & Furious writer Chris Morgan. Production of this sequel began really swiftly after the first movie but – as was universally the case – filming was somewhat delayed by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, Lucy Liu, Djimon Hounsou, and Helen Mirren.

It is produced by DC Films, New Line Cinema, and The Safran Company. Warner Bros. Pictures serves as distributor.

Shazam (aka the original Captain Marvel) was created by Bill Parker and C. C. Beck for defunct comics publisher Fawcett Comics. The character debuted in late 1939’s Fawcett Comics’ Whiz Comics #2. From 1972 to present the character has been published by DC Comics. Due to (obvious) copyright conflicts with Marvel Comics, Billy Batson’s alter ego has been increasingly emphasised as Shazam.
