Last night Marvel confirmed the reports that Oscar winning actress Brie Larson, best known for Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, and Room, has been cast as Captain Marvel herself, Carol Danvers. As part of the news, released at Hall H during the Marvel Studios panel, a new title logo was also revealed, as seen above.

Larson took to twitter herself following the news.

This was the last of Marvel’s announced Wave 3 movies to remain uncast. The last year or so has confirmed our Black Panther, Spider-Man and Wasp, but confirming a Captain Marvel actress solidifies their line for the foreseeable future. Although, actually, maybe that should be ‘unforeseeable’ future – there’s still no release date for the movie, as it was pushed back once Marvel set up a collaborative deal with Sony to put out new Spider-Man movies Hopefully we’ll get a release date soon.

It’s almost guaranteed this will be the Carol Danvers seen in Kelly Sue DeConnick’s run of the series, which saw artists including David Lopez and Dexter Soy drawing the character as she moved up from being a ‘Ms’. The Captain Marvel costume was designed by Jamie McKelvie, who must be doing an excited dance right now as he waits to see his costume head onto the big screen.

Reports suggest that Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman will be scrupting this one, along with Inside Out’s Meg LeFauve.
