Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker reunite to debut all-new Invincible Universe character Ella Mental

To say that it’s a packed day of exciting comic news is an understatement. Case in point, today Skybound announced that  Invincible co-creators Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker will reunite for a series of backup stories in the pages of Capes #7-12 that will debut the new Invincible Universe character Ella Mental. With the power to command earth, wind, fire, and water, Ella Mental will make her debut in the upcoming Invincible VS video game, American rapper and singer Tierra Whack, launching April 30 from Skybound and its in-house game development studio Quarter Up.

As previously announced, Capes #7 will begin an all-new story by writer Benito Cereno (Invincible Presents: Atom Eve, Blood & Thunder) alongside returning artist Mark Englert (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). The series moves beyond its remastered return to explore a new arc of the Invincible Universe when Capes #7 hits comic book shops on May 27, 2026. 

Also not to be missed, Benito Cereno and Mark Englert introduce the biggest mission in Capes history! With Invincible off-planet fighting the Viltrumite War and the new Guardians of the Globe battling The Order, now’s the time for Capes, Inc to become the face of superpowered crime-fighting. But has Bolt already made the one mistake that could doom Capes?   

“I’m so excited Capes is continuing to tell stories set in the Invincible Universe but why not also GROW the Invincible Universe at the same time?!” exclaimed Robert Kirkman. “It’s great to be working with Cory Walker again, creating a new character, in Ella Mental. You’ll love her in Invincible VS when that game launches, and you’ll get to read her origin story in Capes. How cool is that? I plan to be creating characters with Cory Walker forever!”

Capes #7 features a lineup of covers including a main cover by Mark Englert, an Ella Mental-centric cover by Cory Walker & Patricio Delpeche, and additional open-to-order covers by Conor Hughes, Gleb Melnikov, Dike Ruan, and Sanford Greene.
