Dark Horse Comics has announced that The Horror of Collier County, the classic horror/humor comic by cartoonist Rich Tommaso, is being released as a deluxe hardcover in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the series. The hardcover will include issues 1-5 of the series, fully colored for the first time, plus bonus stories “Don’t Look Back!” and “King Blood.” Here’s how the publisher describes the series:

When a young single mother moves to Florida to escape the stresses of city life, she finds the sunshine state filled with unspeakable horrors including alligators, bugs the size of small cars, and zombies. Armed with her trusty weed-whacker, this punk rock momma is ready to take down every monster in the state to protect herself and her kid. But is Florida really haunted by the undead or is it just in her head?

An Eisner winner for his work in 2003 with writer James Sturm on Satchel Paige: Striking Out Jim Crow, Tommaso is a prolific creator of creator-owned work like Dry County and Dark Corridor, and of licensed properties like Adventure Time and Spongebob Squarepants. Most recently Tommaso provided the art on a two-issue arc of Jeff Lemire’s Black Hammer: Age of Doom. The creator is also known for his frankness about the business aspect of comics, most notably last year when a Facebook post expressing frustration at low sales for Spy Seal, a creator-owned series of his from Image, went viral amongst the comics community.
