With the recent return of Superboy-Prime in the pages of Superman, there’s an abundance of Superboys flying around the DCU these days. From the throwback adventures of young Clark Kent in Action to the present-day presence of both Connor Kent and Jon Kent, adding Superboy-Prime to the mix brings the number up to an even four. And as DC enters Act II of its All In initiative, if two’s company and three’s a crowd, in the Superman titles, four is definitely a reign.
DC has announced Reign of the Superboys, a new storyline running through the four Super-Family titles beginning in March. With Superman apparently missing in the aftermath of the DC K.O. event, each Super-series – Action Comics, Superman, Superman Unlimited, and Supergirl – will feature one of the DCU’s Superboys either in a starring or supporting role in what DC describes as “a sweeping storyline that spans the Superman family and propels DC’s new Superboy saga forward across March and beyond.” The publisher says readers can check out individual titles in isolation, or read all of them to get the full story.
The title of the storyline, of course, is an homage to the 1993 Reign of the Supermen storyline that ran through the Superman titles following the death of Superman. That storyline initially saw the four titles, and four new Supermen, remain separated, though it only took a few months before the series started to crossover and interlink. Will Reign of the Superboys follow suit? And is the DCU big enough for more than one Superboy? (Odds are yes to that one, there’s thousands of Green Lanterns and dozens of Flashes so it’ll probably be fine.)

With the bottled city on fire (literally), Kara Zor-El abandons the comfort of Midvale to save the last survivors of Krypton. The youth are in revolt after a shocking secret is revealed, and the Science Council is put on trial for its crimes against the next generation. Can Supergirl find peace between the two warring factions?
DC’s promo promises “a legion of Boy Thunder clones” aiding a depowered, cybernetically-enhanced Supergirl (every good Reign needs a Cyborg) and Superboy Connor Kent in leading a revolution within Kandor. That sounds like pure chaos and so much fun.

After the shocking events of DC K.O., Superman is missing. But one hero steps up to take his place…Superboy Prime?! Normally, Prime has only been part of massive DC events, but now he gets a real shot at showing the world he can be just as great a hero as Superman! Superstar artist Dan Mora returns to Superman for an action-packed and fun adventure that changes the face of the DC Universe!
The DCU survived a crossover with Deadpool, but will it be able to handle a regular monthly helping of Superboy-Prime’s meta-commentary?
