Brutal and disturbing, Ed Piskor‘s Red Room from Fantagraphics is a potent pastiche of splatter and snuff media for the modern comic reader (if they can even stomach it, that is). Every tear of viscera leaps off the page and into the darkest regions of the reader’s psyche. The world building and murder-for-profit gimmick are the draws, but the story has been playing in a slowly and methodically. There really has been no telling where the next turn of the page (or screw) will lead.
Next week, July 28, the third issue of Red Room will be released to comic shops, fine reading establishments, and, perhaps, some dark alleys. Peep the description:
Levee Turks was an encryption software prodigy serving a life sentence for creating an online drug empire, until the FBI proposed a deal: infiltrate red rooms and help the FBI crack down on these deepest corners of the dark web. But Turks soon finds that prison might be a better fate… Another killer stand-alone issue of the all-new monthly series from the creator of Hip Hop Family Tree and X-Men: Grand Design! As seen on Piskor’s YouTube channel sensation, Cartoonist Kayfabe!
