Darkening the doorstep of the cheery holiday season is Katabasis, a fantasy horror story about a mercenary going down into the Underworld to save a soul. Published by BlackBox Comics, Katabasis was born from the creative minds of writer Damien Becton (Worlds Away and Tales from Nottingham #5) and artist Rodrigo Rocha (Black, White & Bloodshot). Dezi Sienty is in charge of the lettering with Salvador Pomar doing the coloring.
The title for the series is most definitely definitely fitting since in Greek, “katabasis” means “descent,” and in Greek mythology, this usually refers to a protagonist’s journey down into the Underworld. Likewise the word also means a retreat, but especially a military retreat.
The four covers, illustrated by Rocha, can be viewed below:
Readers can catch just how action packed Katabasis will be in these preview pages:
“Katabasis is one of the most unique concepts we’ve come up with in a long time,” publisher Dimitrios Zaharakis remarked. “I’m really excited about Juniper’s story, and the way it unfolds in surprising and unexpected ways. We’re hoping to continue her adventures for a while, but it all starts here!”
Katabasis releases on Dec. 25, 2024.

A fantasy horror story about a mercenary going to the Underworld? That sounds like a really interesting premise. I’m curious to know more about the story and characters.
