NOT inked with a giant pen but incredible nonetheless, 10 pages of Jim Woodring’s first ever Frank graphic novel, CONGRESS OF THE ANIMALS.

For those unfamiliar with Woodring’s work, it is set in a strange world of hope and cruelty, where strange creatures enact tales as deep as time, not even needing words. Few artists of any kind have ever limned the subconscious with such terrifying accuracy and beauty.congan-preview.00002.jpg

  1. The art for Congress of the Animals is amazing, and you can see a long sequence of the original art from it at Walpurgis Afternoon, an exhibit featuring art by Jim Woodring and Mark Bell, up on the walls at Lawndale Art Center in Houston, TX, through June 4. So if you happen to be in the Houston area during the next month, please stop by. Your eyeballs will thank you.

  3. I wonder if the title is somehow connected to the Erich Kaestner childrens book “Konferenz der Tiere”, which roughly translates to Congress of the Animals.
