We’re only a couple of weeks away from the kick-off one-shots that will lead into DC’s big Summer event: Metal, by the reunited Batman team of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. And today, before you run off to the theater to see Wonder Woman and enjoy the rest of your weekend, we’ve got some previews of the very two prelude books that lead into that blockbuster of a story.

First up, here’s a deeper look at Dark Days: The Forge #1, written by Snyder, James Tynion IV, with art by Jim Lee, Andy Kubert, and John Romita Jr., which will be on shelves on June 14th, coming with variant covers by Romita and Kubert:

DARKNESS COMES TO THE DC UNIVERSE WITH THE MYSTERY OF THE FORGE! Aquaman, The Flash and more of DC’s pantheon of heroes suspect Batman of hiding a dark secret that could threaten the very existence of the multiverse! It’s an epic that will span generations—but how does it connect to the origins of one of DC’s most legendary heroes?

The great comics event of summer 2017 is about to begin courtesy of superstar writers Scott Snyder and James Tynion III and illustrated by a master class of comics artists: Andy Kubert, Jim Lee and John Romita Jr.! You do not want to miss this one!

And below, you’ll see some early pencil art for the follow-up offering in Dark Days: The Casting, by the same creative line-up, along with another pair of variants by Romita and Kubert:

The Joker’s surprise attack threatens to lay waste to all of Batman’s carefully laid plans. Will the Dark Knight be able to regain the trust of his closest allies, Green Lantern and Duke, and prevent the forces of darkness from consuming the DC Universe?! Will Hawkman’s warning stop our heroes from peering into the abyss?
