Wednesday January 30th I flew out to California to hang with a friend and celebrate the legacy of Stan “The Man” Lee along with hundreds of fans at the Legion M event “Excelsior! A Celebration of the Amazing, Fantastic, Incredible and Uncanny Life of Stan Lee” at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.
The main event was hosted by Stan Lee fan turned friend, writer/director Kevin Smith and had testimonials from actors like Mark Hamill, Laurence Fishburne, Clark Gregg, Seth Green, the RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan and Bill Duke.
Comic luminaries including George Perez, Marv Wolfman, Jeph Loeb, Joe Quesada and Bill Sienkiewicz also spoke about their history with the Marvel legend.
In addition to the people that made it there in person, there were video tributes from stars like Dwayne “The Roc” Johnson, William Shatner, George Takei, Ming Na-Wen, Mike Colter, David Tennant and Doug Jones.
Fans walked away with Loot Crate gift boxes along with a deeper understanding of the man that empowered generations of people.
