With less than two months to go before its arrival on Wednesday, July 2, Netflix has released the trailer for The Old Guard 2.

Directed by Victoria Mahoney (who takes over from the first film’s Gina Prince-Bythewood), and written again by the comic’s co-creator, Greg Rucka, The Old Guard 2 picks up with Charlize Theron’s (formerly) Immortal mercenary Andromeda of Scythia/Andy, as she continues to lead the Immortals without her powers. This time, she must deal with Uma Thurman’s villainous Discord, the “first of the Immortals,” and the return of her vengeful ex-girlfriend Quynh (Veronica Ngô), now allied with the treacherous Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts).

Also returning for the sequel are KiKi Layne as the Immortals’ newest member, Nile Freeman; Marwan Kenzari as Joe; Luca Marinelli as his lover Nicky; and Chiwetel Ejiofor as their ally James Copley. Henry Golding joins Thurman as a new addition to the cast, playing Tuah, “an old friend [of the Immortals], who may provide the key to unlocking the mystery behind immortal existence.” (Tuah is a Malay name, by the way.)

The Old Guard 2 will be released five years after its predecessor, something Theron explained last year was a result of post-production being shut down after a change in leadership at Netflix (presumably referring to when Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters succeeded CEO Reed Hastings at the start of 2023), and then delayed further by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

You can check out more images, and read more from the cast and crew (including Mahoney on having “Black Mamba and Atomic Blonde go toe to toe”) in a pair of articles on Netflix’s Tudum (here and here.) Hopefully that, plus the first poster (which we’ve attached below), will be more than enough to end the drought for Old Guard fans before the sequel finally releases.
