New York Comic Con Metaverse presented a panel hosted by Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum. The pair showed off an early first look at Hulu’s latest Marvel series, M.O.D.O.K. The series is in a stop motion style similar but not identical to Robot Chicken. The humor though is very akin to Robot Chicken.

Patton (M.O.D.O.K.) and Jordon were joined by three members of the cast, Aimee Garcia (Jodie), Melissa Fumero (Melissa) and Ben Schwartz (Lou). Patton fielded questions about what MODOK is about, explaining that the titular villain with the enormous head hates every superhero and resents every other supervillain.

Like Vision in Tom King‘s Vision series, M.O.D.O.K. has a family in this TV series. What does M.O.D.O.K.’s family look like? Well, he’s not the only giant headed, baby armed member of the family. M.O.D.O.K. mixes world domination and family strife with a large amount of humor thrown into the mix.

We were able to see some behind the scenes looks at Stupid Buddy, the stop motion animation studio behind M.O.D.O.K. The animated looks so smooth that a viewer might think it’s CGI, but in fact M.O.D.O.K. is made with puppets wearing soft goods outfits. According to Jordan Blum, Stupid Buddy invented a new handheld shooting style that sends video from a phone to a motion control rig. Because of this, it doesn’t look like any other stop motion show before it.

Guests on the show will include Jon Daly as the Super Adaptoid and SNL‘s Beck Bennett as Austin, a member of the company who buys out AIM. Patton and Jordan teased other guest characters, including from the X-Books and Mark Gruenwald‘s run of Captain America. Patton got especially giggly here. Does this mean we’re getting a Cap Wolf episode?

She continued, “To not only originate a character, but to originate a latina character who is an everywoman, who is relatable, who doesn’t look like Jessica Rabbit, because I certainly do not look like Jessica Rabbit, is so awesome.”

Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is coming soon to Hulu.
