Via his newsletter Forever Wars, writer Spencer Ackerman (Waller vs. Wildstorm, Iron Man) has revealed his first creator-owned comic, No Escapes the Dialectic. Created with artist Antonio Fuso (House of Slaughter), colorist Brad Simpson, and letterer Jodie Troutman, the ongoing, politically charged series centers on the federal homeland security agency SNO (Special Naturalization Operations), as it finds itself at war with the lethal vigilante the Dialectic. It will debut from BOOM! Studios this November.

Ackerman, whose background is in national security journalism, describes the comic as “emerg[ing] from the despair and anger I and many others felt as ICE slouched toward its War on Terror-heralded destiny as a death squad. One day, while searching for some tranquility in a park, I wrote something in my notebook that was somewhere between a joke and an affirmation of socialist forbearance.”
As he gazed back at the book’s eventual title, it felt “like there was a character called the Dialectic and you couldn’t get away from him, [so] it seemed to me like I had something. Like a potentially powerful way to express the despair and anger that characterizes the United States in 2026. And to make something out of it.”
As such, he expects it to “be a controversial comic. It’s going to prompt a lot of questions about what we meant by the various aspects of the book. We’ll be addressing those at Forever Wars, in detail. Beyond that, I want to only say more when I know I can deliver what I’m promising — but it’s exciting.”
He adds, “This series what I want my comic book work to be remembered for. If you liked what I did in Waller vs. Wildstorm or Iron Man and wanted to see what I could do unrestrained by the demands of corporate IP, No Escapes the Dialectic is where it’s all been leading.”
Issue #1 will be released on November 4. Readers who preorder a copy will receive a year’s free subscription to Forever Wars, where Ackerman discusses American militarism and more, if they provide proof of purchase to foreverdialectic[at]gmail[dot]com. In the meantime, subscribers can check out more of the comic at the announcement page.
