Check, Please! is the queer-themed hockey romance comic that has taken the internet by storms. A Kickstarter for the second print collection made just a touch less than $400,000 – but creator Ngozi Ukasu isn’t done yet. EW reports that Source: First Second has just signed on for two Check Please collections.
Well, EW can exclusively announce that Check, Please! will be published in print by First Second Books. The first volume, which hits stores Fall 2018, will collect the first two “Years” of the comic, while the second will collect the latter two, and is set to be published in Fall 2019. Both books will feature extra content not included in the Kickstarter editions.
This is a great move for both parties, but especially First Second, which has been making huge inroads in the YA and middle grade comics markets and will continue on with the proven hit.
And, simply put, Ngozi is a next generation comics superstar, a graduate of both Yale and SCAD, she speaks to every aspect of the intersectional, queer-friendly, hockey-loving contemporary comics readership.
