It’s time for a quest, and you know what that means: going to see the manticore! Or… wait. Is that really how this all starts? In the new trailer for Disney/Pixar’s Onward, starring Tom Holland and Chris Pratt as brothers Ian and Barley, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as their mom Laurel, and Octavia Spencer as Corey, the manticore, the boys end up in grave danger when Corey fails to tell them one very important thing about their quest to bring back their dad: there’s a curse. Isn’t there always a curse?
To save her boys, Laurel goes on an epic quest of her own to save them before it’s too late. She brings Corey along, and the two certainly seem like a formidable pair. In the new trailer, we see them racing after the boys, who are racing against the clock, and the stakes are incredibly high.
As seen in previous trailers, Onward introduces Ian and Barley long after the death of their father. Laurel presents them with a magic staff that can apparently bring him back — just for 24 hours — but things don’t quite go according to plan. Determined to see their dad, the boys go off on a road trip in Barley’s van, determined to complete their quest before time is up.
The new trailer is the first time we’ve seen Corey; it’s also the first time we’ve seen Laurel in action, fighting alongside her boys. In addition to the new Onward trailer, Disney also released a new group poster and official character posters Tuesday. This fantasy epic is sure to be another smash hit, especially since it’s the first original non-sequel to hit theaters from Disney/Pixar since 2015. Not to mention, the cast is stacked.
