Hellboy in Hell wrapped up nearly 10 years ago with a story many readers thought was the definitive end to one of the character’s most beloved arcs. Now, in the year 2026, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is back with at least one more story set in the period of time when Hellboy and his Right Hand of Doom found themselves in the underworld.
Yesterday Dark Horse Comics officially announced Hellboy in Hell: Nothing but Blood, a two-issue micro series that pairs Mignola with French artist Cyrille Pomès in the latter’s Hellboy Universe debut.
“Yes, I too thought Hellboy in Hell was a closed book—But a while back I discovered the work of Cyrille Pomés and instantly fell in love with it,” Mignola said in a press release. “We actually met and when he said he’d like to do a Hellboy story, well, how could I say no to that? I still had half an idea for a Hell story rattling around in my head and invited him to flesh that out, so now what you have is a true collaboration on the story and his absolutely wonderful art and storytelling. I’m so happy to introduce this guy to the American comic book audience.”
Nothing but Blood is set after the events of Hellboy in Hell: Pandemonium, the second arc of the series that sees the death of Satan. The story will follow Hellboy as he tries to save a woman being chased by winged demons, thought the synopsis warns “nothing–and no one–are what they seem to be.”
“When I first saw compliments from a certain Mike Mignola appearing on some of my Facebook posts, I thought it was a joke—or a namesake. But it really was the artist whose early work had such a profound impact on me as a teenager, and whose evolution I’ve followed with awe ever since,” added Pomés. “During a trip to the States, I made a stop in Los Angeles where Mike was living at the time and took a chance: would he like to write a script for me featuring his legendary Hellboy? His response still resonates with me today: ‘It would be an honor.’”
Mignola wrote both issues, which are drawn and lettered by Pomés, and colored by longtime Hellboy colorist Dave Stewart. Pomés drew the primary cover for both Hellboy in Hell: Nothing But Blood issues, which will feature variants by Mignola and Marc Riou on the first and second releases, respectively.
Hellboy in Hell: Nothing but Blood is set to hit the shelves at your local comic story on October 7, 2026.

Thank you Mike and Cyrille, that’s a must read for me
