Announced back in April, Star Wars Resistance is a stark departure from the most recent animated fare in the Star Wars universe. Admittedly aimed at a slightly younger audience, nevertheless with creator Dave Filoni helming the show, fans of all ages will still likely be able to sit down and enjoy it.

Courtesy of USA Today, Lucasfilm/Disney Channel revealed more of the cast of characters, specifically a group of ex-TIE fighter pilots known as the “Aces.”

The top-flight folks are in the Aces, a group of five pilots with their own custom outfits and droids who protect the Colossus and take on all challengers in harrowing races. Hype Fazon (Donald Faison) is a cocky Rodian showoff whose heart is in the right place, Griff Halloran (Stephen Stanton) is a gruff ex-TIE pilot, Freya Fenris (Mary Elizabeth McGlynn) is a fierce lady who’s all business, and Bo Keevil is the mysterious, quiet daredevil of the group.

Kaz makes fast friends with Torra Doza (Myrna Velasco), a young girl who wears colorful clothing and a positive attitude but, as an Ace, is a beast behind a flight stick. “She’s actually rather fun and lighthearted,” Filoni says. “It doesn’t mean that she can’t be also a fantastic pilot.”

Any cartoon that features the comedic stylings of Donald Faison is OK in my book! Be sure to catch the 1-hour premiere next month Sunday, October 7 on Disney Channel.

Star Wars Resistance, a new animated adventure series set before the events of The Force Awakens, follows Kazuda Xiono (“Kaz”), a young pilot recruited by the Resistance’s Poe Dameron and BB-8 and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. While undercover aboard The Colossus, a massive aircraft re-fueling platform on an outer rim water planet, Kaz works as a mechanic and lives with Poe’s long-time friend Yeager – a veteran pilot who operates a starship repair shop run by his crew: Tam, Neeku and their old battered astromech droid, Bucket. In his quest to become the best pilot in the galaxy, Kaz’s journey with his new friend BB-8 finds him facing off against stormtroopers and pirates all the while struggling to maintain his secret mission from his newfound family.
