After partnership between McFarlane Toys and DC and Warner Bros. Consumer Products continues to be a fruitful one with McFarlane Toys unveils new toys and products based on DC’s pantheon of characters and beyond. Case in point, McFarlane Toys has unveiled a Static Shock action figure based on his appearance as part of DC’s New 52 publishing initiative.
This isn’t the first time Static has received his own action figure. A few years back a Static action figure was produced as part of the DC Collectibles Icons line and based on his original appearance in the ’90s as part of Milestone.
It’s a far cry from two decades ago when the original Static Shock cartoon, despite being an incredible ratings success, was unable to attract toy companies or other licensors due to the false belief that a black superhero wouldn’t sell, as recounted by the late/great Dwayne McDuffie. If only they could have foreseen the incredible merchandise success of Black Panther merchandise.
