Spider-Man’s gala #1000 issue is getting even more gala, as Marvel has released MORE covers for this landmark issue. This comes in the wake of the original cover getting a less than enthusiastic response from fans and retailers.
Indeed, the Pepe Larraz cover for the issue is now being billed as “a” main cover for the issue. This new effort fits in with previous anniversary issues with a more dynamic, dramatic view of the webslinger in an urban setting. The lead story of the issue is by Joe Kelly and Larraz and reveals a previously unknown relative for Peter Parker with predictably dramatic results.
Marvel also revealed more details on the interior and variant covers, led by a collaboration between Frank Miller and Peach Momoko! Spider-Man stalwarts Dan Slott and Brian Michael Bendis are also represented, as are stories that look back on the events that changed Peter Parker’s life forever.
Variant cover artists include Alex Ross and Mark Bagley. The gang is all here, basically.

- “Now I Can Rest” by Dan Slott and Marcos Martin brings readers back to the night that changed Peter Parker’s life in a revelatory and heartbreaking story exploring Uncle Ben’s death.
- “The Gesture” by Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen is a mighty team up between Spider-Man and the Avengers against some of Spidey’s greatest foes!
- “Still Standing” by Noah Hawley and Patrick Gleason
- “Tears of the Spider-Queen” by Frank Miller and Peach Momoko pit Spider-Man against the deadly ninjas of the Hand!

Some outlets are reporting that the previous, mid cover by JR Jr and Paolo Revera has been pulled, but it is mentioned in the accompanying PR. At any rate, it seems it will quietly be not mentioned again in polite society. Moving on.
