Marvel Comics has announced a new box set of the most essential Avengers storylines in the team’s 55-year history. The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Box Set Slipcase includes collected editions of 11 Avengers stories/runs, from the first 16 issues of the original series by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby to the first arc of the current series by Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness. The set will be released in April, just in time for the finale of the MCU’s Avengers: Infinity War story to hit theaters.

Each era of the team seems pretty well-represented, and for the most part the stories included are accessible, standalone stories. The only slight head-scratcher is the inclusion of “Avengers Disassembled,” a story that doesn’t so much showcase the team as it does…well, disassemble them. Of all the stories from Brian Bendis’s long run on the Avengers to include, that’s certainly the first one they could have chosen.

No details yet on how much this set will cost, but you can check out art from each of the included volumes below, as well as the full press release from Marvel. Look for the Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Box Set Slipcase in stores in April.

  1. Not a bad list, As you said, I would omit “Disassembled”, but leave in Finale.

The major omissions I see are “Even an Android Can Cry” and the Ultron story that introduced Admantium.

  2. Shooter and Perez’s “Bride of Ultron” storyline (1977) is one of my favorites.

And the first two annuals (1967 and 1968), both written by Roy Thomas, were childhood favorites.
