Marvel Comics has released information on their planned release schedule for single-issue comics following Diamond Comics’s resumption of weekly shipments. While Diamond’s planned return for new comics is Wednesday, May 20th, Marvel will hold their new releases until the following Wednesday, May 27th, with a small line-up of six single-issue titles including the debut of Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #1.

The schedule is notable in that Marvel will be slowly ramping up its single-issue releases, instead leaning more on collected editions and art books as they get back to a normal weekly schedule. The June 3rd, June 17th, and July 1st planned releases are all made up only of collections; June 10th and the aforementioned May 27th feature only single issues, while June 24th and July 8th will both see a mixture of singles and collections released.

In a statement, Marvel called this release plan “the most thoughtful way we can [release books] for fans, creators, and the industry during these unpredictable times.”

  1. That’s certainly an interesting non-single issue focused approach. Some would scoff at the release schedules of other companies and yet even Marvel is very cautious about releasing new material in the next few months.

  2. So there will be two Dawn of X books on June 10 and then nothing until the next one on July 8? Way to keep the readers invested in the storyline which was promising 10 to 12 books a month.

  3. Well, that’s an almost shockingly conservative roll-out for Marvel when it comes to single issue periodicals. For the first eight shipping weeks they have 26 new comics, which is what they often have in a single week. All of them were originally due April 1 or April 8 (and not all those are accounted for yet), so might even have been printed prior to the shut-down. And they’re missing some key books (no X-MEN, no WOLVERINE, only single issues of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and IMMORTAL HULK, which normally ship more than one issue a month). I think by the time this shakes out they may have lost 3 to 4 months of publishing, which will be a huge hit for their freelancers.
