As revealed on its website, NTT Docomo will shut down its manga reading service Manga Mirai in the United States on December 15. User account information will be transferred to MangaPlaza, a service run by Docomo’s sister company NTT Solmare. To ensure their purchased comics are transferred over, users must register at MangaPlaza with the same email address as their Mirai account by September 30, and ensure the addresses remain the same until October 31.
Mirai’s information board acknowledges some of their titles may not be available on MangaPlaza, so “you may be eligible for a full or partial refund” if that’s the case. Similarly, users who opt out of moving to the other site (by September 30) “may also be eligible for a refund.” Users under the age of 18 cannot create a Plaza account, so they also “may be eligible for a refund for purchased comics.”
At the time of writing, readers are no longer able to create accounts or purchase comics on Mirai, and the app is no longer be available for download or for read purchased comics. The website itself is largely down, except for the shutdown notice, and pages for user accounts and libraries. Those eligible for a refund will be emailed in November or December.
Mirai, whose name means “future” in Japanese, was launched in the United States on March 4, 2025, and offered titles from Yen Press, Viz Media, and more.
