The Mandalorian season two trailer has been released after a fortnight that saw big screen Star Wars star John Boyega call out his “unique experience of that franchise based on [his] race” and small screen star Gina Carano making transphobic jokes and refusing to put pronouns in her Twitter bio (even though Pedro Pascal – who even updated his Twitter display name to include [he/him] – generously explained to her why that was important).

The trailer features dialogue exchanged by The Armorer (Emily Swallow) and Din Djarin in the first season’s final episode, “Chapter 8: Redemption,” in which The Armorer compels Djarin to seek out and deliver the Child to a race of enemy sorcerers. Meanwhile, the footage reveals a cavalcade of exciting Star Wars motifs.

Are we finally going to see Nar Shaddaa on screen? Could that snowy planet be Hoth? And it looks like we’re finally going to visit a live-action water planet besides Kamino or Ahch-To (unless…? nah).

On top of all that, it looks like we’re going to get more antics from the beloved Baby Yoda puppet, and it appears his floating nursery pod is ready for action (and just in time to be featured in a whole new wave of Baby Yoda merch, no doubt).

Meanwhile, Carano’s disparaging remarks cast a shadow over a second season already shadowed by rumored co-star Rosario Dawson’s transphobic assault case. However, if there is a silver lining, it’s that many in the Star Wars fan community have banded together to show support for trans rights over the past few days.
