Many comics creators in the industry call Los Angeles home, living and working in a city now grappling with devastating wildfires that have swept across the county. As I watched the situation unfold, I couldn’t help but wonder which publisher would be the first to step up and take action in support of the affected communities. That answer, it turns out, is Mad Cave Studios who are running a charity comic anthology called LA STRONG: A CHARITY COMIC FOR VICTIMS OF THE LOS ANGELES FIRES.
“When tragedy strikes, we stand together. At Mad Cave Studios, we believe in the power of art to heal, inspire, and rebuild. With this anthology, we aim to honor the resilience of Los Angeles and provide much-needed support to those who have been impacted by these devastating fires,” said Mark London the founder and CEO of Mad Cave Studios. “This is our opportunity to give back to the community that has given us so much, and we’re calling on creators and fans alike to join us in making a difference.”
“The comics community is known for coming together and supporting their own in times of crisis. This situation is no exception.” followed Editor-in-Chief of Mad Cave Studios, Mike Marts.
LA STRONG: A CHARITY COMIC FOR VICTIMS OF THE LOS ANGELES FIRES will feature contributions by prominent artists and writers from the comic book community. Each piece will commemorate Los Angeles’s strength by celebrating the city’s spirit and resilience.
The comic in itself promises to provide some relief and ensure our collective efforts will be made to support peers and those affected by the fires. Details as to who is going to be in the anthology and how the money will be distributed remain unknown at this time but we will update with more once it’s available.
Shortly after the devastation became apparent, I also wondered if as with 9/11 the industry would step forward. Glad to see that some have.
