We haven’t talked about it much around here, but it’s worth noting there’s a new Halloween movie around the corner and it’s got the internet all abuzz.
Basically, the gist is David Gordon Green (who is directing) and Danny McBride (co-writing the script with Green and Jeff Fradley), decided to pseudo reboot the franchise back to its roots. With this new entry, no other film after the first one counts; no H2O, no ridiculous cult storyline, just Michael Myers vs. Laurie Strode, 40 years after his capture and that awful night…oh, and they’re no longer related (hooray!). Shades of Superman Returns‘ approach to selective continuity, but hopefully this ends up better.
No movie of the slasher era is as good as Halloween. That’s not exactly a controversial opinion, but it’s amazing how well it holds up to this day compared to the copycats that followed. Here’s hoping this new effort will be the one to finally live up to John Carpenter’s original – he also came back to co-write the score for this one!
By the looks of the below trailer, we’re off to a great start:
Halloween stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Nick Castle, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, and Virginia Gardner. It hits theaters on October 19th through those fine folks over at Blumhouse.
