Next week AfterShock Comics will release Land of the Living Gods #2. The second issue of the series is written by Isaac Mogajane, with art and colors by Santtos and lettering by Dave Sharpe. The series follows a South African teenager trying to save the world by finding the secret home of the spirits of the first people. Today The Beat is pleased to present an exclusive preview of the next issue of the series.

Here’s how AfterShock describes Land of the Living Gods #2:

Things go from bad to worse for Naledi as she and Kaelo arrive at Serepa – a stronghold built on one of the last remaining pieces of arable land left in Southern Africa. Serepa is owned by a ruthless warlord named Shandu, and he will do whatever it takes to hold on to power in this dying world. Even if that means performing human sacrifices.

In a statement back when the series was first announced, writer Isaac Mogajane offered three reasons why readers should check the book out:

“1. Something new: We’ve seen post-apocalyptic before, but not quite like this. This book pulls from African cultures, traditional beliefs and superstitions and uses them to underpin its unique narrative and characters.

    1. Surprising outcomes: This is a book that is built on the blurring of perception and misperception. Not everything that readers experience will be quite what it seems to be, and I’m hyped to see how some of the major twists and turns we have planned play out.
    2. Buyo: One of our lead characters is an intelligent pot-plant. What more do I need to say?”
