Last month Moonstone Books announced an upcoming Kickstarter campaign to fund production of a Kolchak: The Night Stalker 50th Anniversary graphic novel. The anthology graphic novel is organized by editor James Aquilone, will feature stories by a number of big-name creators including Rodney Barnes, R.C. Matheson, and Kim Newman. Today The Beat can announce a pair of new creators joining the project: V-Wars author Jonathan Maberry, and Falconspeare artist and cartoonist Warwick Johnson-Cadwell.
Along with the creator announcement, The Beat can also share details of another element of the Kolchak 50th Anniversary Kickstarter campaign: a prose anthology of at least ten stories spanning Kolchak’s life, open to all writers for submissions. Writers of stories chosen for the anthology, which can be between 1500 and 7500 words long, will be paid a flat $50 fee, with the anthology expected to release in late 2022.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Here’s your chance to write a classic Kolchak story! Like the theme for the 50th anniversary graphic novel, the prose anthology will consist of stories from throughout Kolchak’s life, from the 1930s to the late ’90s. Please, be familiar with Kolchak before writing your story and watch the TV movies and series! While we’re looking for writers to submit full stories, you can send a story pitch to the editor to see if it’s something they’re interested in before you write the story. But, please, don’t send stories before the submissions period opens.
SUBMISSIONS
A Kickstarter campaign for the graphic novel and prose anthology will launch early in 2022, after which we’ll open to submissions. We’ll publish at least 10 stories. If the campaign is successful, we may add more. All stories will come from the open submissions period. There will be no invitees. Still, we expect this call to be highly competitive.
Use classic Shunn formatting. Send as an attachment in doc or docx. In the subject line, put “Kolchak 50 Prose Anthology,” the name of your story, and author name. Example: Kolchak 50 Prose Anthology – Story Title – Author Name.

Moonstone Books has been releasing new Kolchak: The Night Stalker stories in comics and prose form since the early 2000s. The Kolchak: The Night Stalker 50th Anniversary graphic novel will be available from the publisher in both softcover and hardcover formats, with an exclusive 40-page Kolchak comic by Aquilone, Colton Worley, and cover artist Dan Brereton included as part of the Kickstarter.
