And speaking of Smithhere’s what he had to say about Rosario Dawson:

Q: Rosario is kind of a sci-fi nerd, right?

KS: It’s cool because a lot of people don’t know that. People said she’s so famous so why would she do my movie and I wondered the same thing and she said it was because of the Donkey Show. She said she always wanted to see that. I told her no one is actually going to fuck the donkey and she said she knew that but wanted to be on the set when it happened. You meet her and realize she’s into some weird stuff. She said her biggest career regret is being cut out of the Devil’s Rejects. She did a 5-minute cameo that got cut and she’s upset because she loves horror movies and Rob Zombie. She can speak knowledgably about Johnny The Homicidal Maniac comic book. Very few women know about comic books and no one who looks like Rosario knows black and white independent comic books. Even though she’s a goddess she makes you feel like she’s normal. The first conversation I had with her was about anal bleaching.

  1. “Very few women know about comic books and no one who looks like Rosario knows black and white independent comic books.”

Sometimes I think he’s trying to upset people.

  2. “The first conversation I had with her was about anal bleaching” is not a polite thing to say about anybody.

  3. Me? I’m just awesomed out that Rosario Dawson reads… Jhonen Vasquez. Aka… the master of disaster… of awesome… ah, Invader Zim still echoes in my mind… OH THE GEEK REFERENCES. And anonymous, we don’t know who started the convo about anal bleaching… it could have been Rosario… still, a celebirty reading JTHM… oooooh, goosbumps.

  4. The first anonymous was me–didn’t notice my name wasn’t in the field. Never much cared for Zim or JTHM. Always seemed to be geared towards people who are not me at all.

  5. “Even though she’s a goddess she makes you feel like she’s normal.”
Naturally, both goddess and normal are subjective terms. I think Mr. Smith was trying to say “This rising Hollywood superstar who is very attractive also happens to like the same examples of sci-fi and comic geekery that I like.”

  6. Wow, what a bunch of judgemental holier-than-thous! I have been a comics fan for a long time & realize that there are lots of female type people IN THE BUSINESS. I read quite a few of them (hello, Heidi!). But out here in the not so pretty “real world” where precious few people read comics AT ALL, I must confess that I know only one girl (pretty, if you’re keeping score) who reads/knows about comics. As for taking offence at the choice of conversation, anonymous II, you have heard of this Kevin Smith person before, haven’t you?

  7. Crikey, my entire comic book collection, for the most part, is made up of independent or at the very least, lesser known comic book titles. I must be the ugliest thing to walk this earth. Thanks, Smith.

  8. You might want to rethink the title of this entry…”Smith on girl nerds” sounds like a film Randall from Clerks would rent.
