The votes have been cast and after tallying up all 34 million of them (nearly twice as many as last year), this year’s Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024 winners have been chosen. Given the sheer popularity of some of the series, some people might not be too shocked at the winners but there are a few surprises.
The annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards took place on March 2 in Japan with numerous big names attending and presenting including four-time Oscar winner director Bong Joon Ho (Parasite), award-winning singer LiSA (“Gurenge” from Demon Slayer), actress Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel), and acclaimed rapper Megan Thee Stallion. The latter showcased her love for anime by cosplaying as Jujutsu Kaisen‘s most powerful sorcerer Gojo Satoru prior to the awards ceremony and as JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure‘s Bruno Bucciarati when it came time for her to present.
Aside from the ceremony, the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024 show treated fans to a whole concert, opening up with a live performance of the Anime Awards theme song performed by award-winning composers Hiroyuki Sawano and Kohta Yamamoto (Attack on Titan). Yoasobi brought everyone to their feet with their performance of chart-shattering song “Idol” which topped the Japan Hot 100 for 22 consecutive weeks.
Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen was one of the most highly-anticipated returns to the anime season, as shown by the series taking home a whopping 11 awards including the coveted Anime of the Year award. Following behind are Chainsaw Man and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc. Chainsaw Man won six awards, five of which speaks to the sheer talent of the voice actors. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc won three awards including Best Animation for the third year in a row.
Congratulations to all of the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024 winners!
