Last October the upcoming slate of DC original animated films were revealed during DC FanDome which included Green Lantern: Beware My Power. Today courtesy of an IGN exclusive, the first trailer for the Green Lantern: Beware My Power animated film was released.

As mentioned during FanDome, this latest film is part of the current DC Animated Movies canon overseen by producer Butch Lukic. I’m sure most just assumed the film would focus on Hal Jordan so it’s actually a pleasant surprise to see John Stewart get to shine in his own animated feature. Never fear though as Hal Jordan does appear in the film, but considering it looks like he bites it at the beginning that may not be much solace. I think it’s safe to say that Stewart’s rise in popularity is due in large part to his role in the seminal Justice League animated series. With the tragic passing last week of artist Neal Adams who co-created the character with writer Denny O’Neil, there’s something very poetic about seeing John Stewart get the spotlight in his own DC animated movie.

While the film is an original story, based on the trailer it clearly takes many cues from the Sinestro Corps Wars storyline from the epic run of GL writer Geoff Johns. In addition to John Stewart, the trailer also showcases other DC characters set to appear in the film including Martian Manhunter Hawkgirl, Vixen, Green Arrow, and Adam Strange. Presumably, actor Ike Amadi will be reprising Martian Manhunter after first voicing him in Superman: Man of Tomorrow.

Keep your eyes peeled for more details including the voice cast!

Green Lantern: Beware My Power arrives on 4K, Blu-ray & Digital on July 26, 2022.

In Green Lantern: Beware My Power, recently discharged Marine sniper John Stewart is at a crossroads in his life, one which is only complicated by receiving an extraterrestrial ring which grants him the powers of the Green Lantern of Earth. Unfortunately, the ring doesn’t come with instructions – but it does come with baggage, like a horde of interplanetary killers bent on eliminating every Green Lantern in the universe. Now, with the aid of the light-hearted Green Arrow, Adam Strange and Hawkgirl, this reluctant soldier must journey into the heart of a galactic Rann/Thanagar war and somehow succeed where all other Green Lanterns have failed. The film’s Supervising Producer is Butch Lukic.
