A few weeks after it was reported that Kyle Chandler is set to play Hal Jordan in the upcoming Lanterns live-action series, today it was officially announced that Aaron Pierre was cast to play fellow Green Lantern John Stewart. For those not initiated with comics, the character is unrelated to Daily Show host of the same name. Pierre is no stranger to the DC Universe having played Dev-Em in the Syfy Krypton series.
Serving as showrunner for the Lanterns series is Chris Mundy (Ozark) who will co-write the show along with with Damon Lindelof and Tom King. Since the DC Studios led by filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran, this new direction for DC’s iconic staple of heroes definitely seems to be firing on all cylinders. It all begins with what’s been dubbed “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.” The eight-episode series is set to start filming in Atlanta from January to June. James Hawes will direct the first two episodes and will also serve as an executive producer. With any luck, by next San Diego Comic-Con in July, DC Studios will have its first Hall H panel presentation and showcase some footage.
Way back in 2020, Max announced plans for a Green Lantern series developed by executive producers and writers Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim, along with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter and David Madden. Obviously, those plans were overhauled with the aforementioned formation of DC Studios.
With Nathan Fillion set to make his debut as fan-favorite GL Guy Gardner in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, it’s tempting to assume the character may appear alongside Aaron Pierre.
Guy Gardner “a fan favorite?”
