So with apologies to Paul Bettany, Marvel have announced that Ultron will be played by James Spader in Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.
Yes, Alan Shore himself! Marvel.com announced the news themselves, via an ‘exclusive’ (which they gave… themselves? I can’t help but love that) on the website. Currently in pre-production, the sequel to Joss Whedon’s massively successful first film is due for release in Summer 2015. Whedon will return to write and direct.
Spader is an amazing actor, especially when given the right part. This suggests that we’re going to get a lot more from Ultron than just “rraaarrgghh” noises – as why would you cast James Spader if you’re not giving him lots of fast-paced juicy dialogue?
Fingers crossed they also cast William Shatner as Hank Pym. I know Marvel have said Pym isn’t appearing – but please?
Good choice Marvel. I have watched and rewatched Boston Legal multiple times. He is a really good actor.
Uh oh, looks like Rip is on Julian’s case again.
At first I read this as Stargate 2
“…William Shatner as Hank Pym.”
That sounded weird at first but on further reflection, I like the idea.
Yeah Saipman – total agreement with you. After all, Shatner’s stomach is as big as Goliath’s these days.

Spader killed it on Boston Legal, looking forward to him as Ultron. But will he just do the voice-over for a CGI-created robot body?
Spader will be great as Ultron.
And Bettany could still be Vision. He may not particularly enjoy superhero flicks but a role as an actual Avenger in the Avengers 2 or 3 would help him get greenlights for more of the films he does like.
How is his voice?
Has Marvel Studios signed everyone to A2:AoU?
They had to pay a pretty penny to get Robert Downey Jr. for A2 and A3.

I totally remember Ultron smoking cigarettes in the hallway in high school man the 80’s were awesome. .
