DC has revealed the covers for three more middle grade graphic novels that will be on the way in 2021, including one headlined by “Heckblazer” himself, John Constantine. All three of the upcoming comics feature familiar DC heroes presented in an accessible, sometimes unexpected way.

The covers for the three upcoming middle grade graphic novels were revealed by THR.

Metropolis Grove

Metropolis Grove

The first of the three titles to be released will be Metropolis Grove by Drew Brockington with colors by Wendy Broom. Coming on May 4th, 2021, this title will feature three kids who investigate some mysterious Superman sightings in the town of Metropolis Grove – but they uncover something Bizarro in the process!

“Heckblazer”

Heckblazer
The Mystery of the Meanest Teacher

Next up will be The Mystery of the Meanest Teacher: A Johnny Constantine Graphic Novel, featuring Heckblazer himself! This book is especially exciting because it’s reuniting the creative team of Ryan North and Derek Charm, who you may remember teaming up for a magically burger-licious run of Jughead in 2016. Can’t wait to see what happens when this team gets ahold of Constantine? Frankly, neither can we! This comic will arrive on June 1st, 2021 (we’ll be waiting) and will be lettered by Wes Abbot.

Green Arrow: Stranded

Green Arrow: Stranded

Finally, in Green Arrow: Stranded by Brendan Deneen and Bell Hosalla, 13-year-old Oliver Queen and his father have survived a plane crash, but can they survive being stranded on a deserted island? Find out when this middle grade graphic novel, which will be lettered by AndWorld Design, is released on July 6th, 2021.

If you’re curious what you might expect from these upcoming books, which will each carry a MSRP of $9.99, consider checking out The Beat’s review of one of the previously released middle grade graphic novels in the line, Lois Lane and the Friendship Challenge.

Are you especially interested in one of these releases (and is it Heckblazer)? Which DC heroes do you hope get the middle grade graphic novel treatment next? Let us know in the comment section!

  1. Remember when Constantine was banned from appearing outside Vertigo comics in case little kids got interested in him?

  2. These look great. I’m most interested in Superman and Shazam!, but the Green Arrow art looks great. If DC released one of these each week, I’d just buy these and be done with DC’s $4 floppies for senior citizens.
