Papercutz has announced Flash Gordon: The Girl From Infinity Vol. 2, a follow-up to last year’s graphic novel reimagining the classic space hero as a girl. Writer Marguerite Bennett and artist Bev Johnson will return for the middle-grade book, which will also feature colors by Abigail Paradis, and lettering by Morgan Martinez. It will pick up with Flash and her new friend Dale Arden on the run from the Emperor Azimuth, who is in the midst of consolidating his rule over the planet Omnia after the pair’s rebellion failed.

The full synopsis reads, “She fell from a shooting star with no memory and only the faintest clues about where she came from, or why she’d been sent to this part of the world. But that didn’t stop Flash Gordon from leaping into action when her friend Dale Arden needed help. Now they’re both embroiled in a planetary war! The evil Emperor Azimuth wants to rule the alien world of Omnia — and a strange shadow power seems to be helping him. Flash fought alongside a rebel army to depose him — but they failed. Now Flash and Dale are on the run, the Emperor’s sister is under lock and key, and Omnia is in chaos. And the Emperor knows something about Flash’s origins… something even Flash doesn’t know…”
The book will be released in paperback and hardcover on July 21, and you can read a four-page preview below in the meantime. Additionally, the main Flash Gordon series from Papercutz’s parent company Mad Cave, starring the original version of the character, will continue with issue #17 (the second in Dan Abnett and Manuel Garcia‘s new run) tomorrow, and Flash Gordon Quarterly #8 will be released on July 22. Furthermore, Dan Schkade‘s run on the original newspaper strip continues to be published in syndication daily.
