First Second have today announced that one of their next big projects will come from the creative team of Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks, who’ll be working on an as-yet-unnamed graphic novel together. On top of this, the company have also signed Rowell for a two-book deal, meaning she’ll also have a second project coming out in future.

Faith Erin Hicks is a familiar name for comics fans, having released a string of excellent books over the last few years which include Bigfoot Boy, The Adventures of Superhero Girl, and Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong. Rowell may be a little less familiar – an award-winning novelist, her books include Eleanor & Park and Fangirl.

Although their project together is as-yet unnamed, it is said to be a YA story. When we know more, you’ll know more too!

  1. YES! It’s about time!

    GO! READ her books now!

Eleanor & Park is about two somewhat nerdy kids growing up in north Omaha in the 1980s. (YA) Award-winning book!

Attachments is an adult romance between a columnist and the newspapers IT wizard, who starts reading her email when it triggers the filters. (Set in the 1990s.) (Adult romance, but of the Chick Lit variety.)

Fangirl is about a college freshman who enjoys writing fanfiction, but has to adjust to college life. (New Adult fiction)

  2. I like Faith Erin Hicks’s work enormously.

And just a couple weeks back, I read FANGIRL, and liked it so much that I bought ATTACHMENTS for my Kindle and read that while I was waiting for a print copy of ELEANOR & PARK to arrive. All three were a treat to read, and I’m eager for LANDLINE.

So Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks together? I’m there.
