It’s been almost a year since actor David Corenswet was announced to play the Man of Steel along with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane in the much anticipated Superman from director/writer James Gunn. Today the first official image of Corenswet suited up in the Superman costume was released.

David CorenswetGunn mentioned on social media that the photo was taken on set by Jess Miglio and was entirely in-camera.

Originally titled Superman: Legacy, the film has since been shortened to simply Superman. As Gunn explained, “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was Superman. Making our way to you July 2025.”

Unsurprisingly, the image has garnered a plethora of opinions online with many commenting on the decision to depict such an epic hero in the midst of such a mundane task like putting his boots on. Nevertheless, excitement is still high for the upcoming project which given Gunn’s track record is to be expected. Fans are definitely glad to see the return of the iconic red trunks.

With filming already begun some months ago and SDCC right around the corner, it’s tempting to assume Warner Bros. will be planning some sort of presentation in the fabled Hall H. Given the recent superhero movie duds in recent years, I’m not sure skipping out on Hall H is something Warner Bros. or even Marvel Studios can afford this year.

In addition to Correnswet and Brosahan, the film also features Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, María Gabriela De Faría as the Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.

Superman is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 11, 2025.
