Matt Kindt, Tyler Jenkins, and Hilary Jenkins, the creative team behind the BOOM! Studios series Grass Kings, are reuniting for a new series from Dark Horse Comics. Fear Case is a four-issue crime/horror series set to debut in February of next year.
Here’s how Dark Horse describes Fear Case:
It is True Detective meets The Ring in Fear Case, as a no-nonsense Secret Service agent and his partner investigate a mysterious box known only as the “Fear Case,” which has appeared throughout history at sites of disaster and tragedy. Whoever comes into possession of this case must pass it on within three days or face deadly consequences. The agents must track down this Fear Case while staying one step ahead of a psychotic cult and the otherwordly forces behind the Case’s existence.
Along with Grass Kings, Kindt and Jenkins have also previously teamed for another BOOM! Studios series, Black Badge. Fear Case will be their first collaboration released by Dark Horse, and the latest Dark Horse series from Kindt, whose previous work from the publisher includes Ether, Mind MGMT, and Dept. H. The recently-concluded Bang!, by Kindt and artist Wilfredo Torres, was a big success for the publisher, with the first issue going to multiple printings.
Also upcoming from Kindt and Dark Horse is Crimson Flower, a revenge fantasy series illustrated by Matt Lesniewski. It’s unclear if either Fear Case or Crimson Flower are a part of the shared universe that Kindt has woven throughout dozens of his books over the years, but it’s probably a safe bet.
