The Exorcism at Buckingham Palace #1 second printing

As The Beat has reported, there’s been a noticeable pattern in recent months of indie comic titles and other books, in particular first issues, selling like gangbusters and heading back for second printings. The trend was arguably first seen with D’orc and soon followed by other titles such as White Sky, Death Fight Forever, and Narco all selling out before the day of release.

There’s a myriad of reasons to explain this sudden surge of issue sales resulting in second printings, the most obvious being a new wave of speculators taking advantage of low order sales to create scarcity and amplify demand and thus allow them to selling the issues for a higher price.

Of course, that’s not to ignore demand from fans and readers. In the case of The Exorcism at Buckingham Palace, it could be certainly be argued that that the book’s predecessor, The Exorcism at 1600 Pen, being adapted for film by Blumhouse played a potential factor in increased interest and sales for the book.
