If scrolling through social media makes you feel like a dinosaur, imagine how the characters in Archie Comics must feel… Eisner-nominated comics retailer Timmy Heague (Aresenal Comics & Games) penned a story for Archie Jumbo Comics Digest #353 in which poor Archie tries to prove he has rizz and learn the latest slang from an in-universe TikTok star to impress Betty and Veronica, and it’s so skibidi.
Here’s the official synopsis: “In the fast-paced, ever-changing world of modern slang, how do you keep up with everyone’s spectacular vernacular? Join us for a lesson in today’s grooviest terms. (Kids still say groovy, right?)”
The Beat has a sneak peek at the story below, with pencils by Bill Galvan, inks by Jim Amash, colors by Glenn Whitmore, and letters by Jack Morelli.
“Hey Peeps, high key it was an absolutely Bussin’ time for yours truly to do an Archie digest story, bringing the hip gen z slang of today’s youth (I’m turning 32 next month) to RIZZ-erdale,” Heague told The Beat. “I hope the fans in comic shops think it’s as gucci as the folks on Reddit did; yeah, that’s right. I’m the CEO of Archie Comics Reddit now, no cap. Anyway, somehow I fit 50 gen z phrases in five pages and TBH I don’t know how I did it either. They let me cook, liked the fire they saw on each page, and next month there’s another one! Not a Gen Z slang in the next digest, just MEMES. No cap.”
As always, Archie Jumbo Comics Digest #353 features a whole host of shorts about Riverdale’s teens, including a reprint of the classic “Repair Despair!” written by Bill Golliher, pencilled by Bob Bolling, inked by Bob Smith, colored by Barry Grossman, and lettered by Vickie Williams. When Archie can’t afford the repairs to his car, he agrees to work off the debt—but being a mechanic is harder than he expects.
